Tag - Drag Record falls
VCM Suite's developmental mule,
a silver LS2 powered 2002 CV8 Monaro had, for some months,
stood head and shoulders above the dozens of competitors
regularly attending Tag Systems' awesome Drag Tag virtual
reality Drag Racing facility. Well, that all changed with
the recent debut of Charlie Gauchi's amazing supercharged
9-second '57 Chev.
Having dominated with almost endless track records with
literally pages of potent runs ranging from mid 11-second
elapsed times down to a best ET of 10.69 seconds, once
Charlie prepared his car for Drag Tag competition there was
never any doubt that he was going to take away the outright
record in his highly boosted 'stretched' big block powered
beast. The Chevy is a regular runner at both Calder and
Heathcote having run a best of 9.7 seconds (no pipes) and
10.1 seconds as the car is driven on the street.
Charlie Says
Charlie admitted he was a little reticent debuting his silky
smooth Chevy at Drag Tag; "I wasn't sure how representative
the times would be given that even though you're driving the
car in virtually the same manner you would when at the drag
strip, I didn't think a virtual environment would deliver
real world results," Charlie explained. "However once I'd
got in a few passes and started to get a handle on things, I
went for broke and was amazed when the timers showed I'd run
a 10.17 - which is virtually identical to what I have
achieved over the real quarter mile."
Outclassed
VCM Suite simply can't compete with a proven 9-second
vehicle, all we can is our best. Existing Monaro mods are
limited to a fresh LS2, Harrop extractors and exhaust (very
quiet), Kostecki air box, VZ Maf, and of course a VCM Suite
tune. The current Maf tune sees approximately 350RWKW,
however we expect to up the ante quite soon with more boost
(the 10.69 was achieved with just 6.8PSI max boost), larger
injectors and a Maf-less tune. We're anticipating around 400
kilowatts at the treads, enough we hope to improve our
quarter mile times by perhaps 2-3 tenths of a second.
Achieving consistent numbers isn't easy though, irrespective
of us running a RIP shifter for consistent changes. Rather,
trying to displace all of the available power through little
245 road tyres is quite a struggle. In fact, if it wasn't
for Drag Tag's awesome setup whereby you're able to perform
massive burn outs to ensure the tyres are at their optimum
warmth, I doubt whether we have even broken into the 11
second zone.
We will keep you posted with future results.
