VE Commodore OTR
Behind the
scenes, VCM Performance has been working on the development
of a new generation VE OTR Cold Air Intake system, creating
a design on the premise of taking the aftermarket bolt-on
high performance parts industry into the OEM realm.
From the outset VCM adopted an all-encompassing approach,
kicking off the process by securing the services of an
industry leading Design Engineer with ‘induction process’
credentials that are respected for being world class.
His brief was to assist in the design and development of a
product and ancillaries that would exceed the demands of the
neediest customer; he would ensure OEM fitment and finish.
Design
Parameters
• Utilize existing ‘real estate’ without the need to modify
(cut or tweak) any OEM panel or part
• Establish the boundaries for flow analysis (vehicle
pressure v depression areas)
• Maintain a modular approach while taking into account the
need to accommodate all possible iterations including: MAF,
MAF-less, manual transmission, automatic transmission, air
conditioning, Harrop supercharger, SS, Calais, Statesman,
Maloo, Clubsport, GTS etc
• Equip the solution with the largest readily available K&N
air filter panel – basing this criteria on established
research proving that the larger the area, the less
restriction & servicing required
• Provide a failsafe method of dispersing the ingress of
water in adverse weather
• Fully enclose filter to meet ADR compliance. Utilizing the
largest possible filter in an enclosed area offers, over and
above reduced restriction, significantly reduced intake
noise
• OEM finish & fit
• Minimal restriction to existing cooling system components
(radiator, automatic transmission cooler, intercooler)
• Material use: Homogonous polymers such as OEM high
temperature polypropylene. Materials such as fibreglass will
not be considered
• Easy fitment with normal “home garage tools”
• Easy filter access for cleaning
• Flexible couplings to allow for engine movement therefore
limiting the potential for material and/or associated OEM
component fatigue
• Ensure OEM quality connectivity of all electrical and
mechanical fittings
• Verify OTR design through CFD (Computational Fluid
Dynamics)
• Create prototypes using laser sintering followed by
extensive real world testing with all configurations being
tested on multiple vehicles
• Ensure materials can be coloured / body-matched
• Create complementary ancillary components (infill panel,
hood panel insert for some supercharged applications)

VE Infill Panel
Fit any OTR to the VE Commodore and it
leaves a gaping hole in the passenger side inner guard that
allow ingress of road garbage, and frankly, radically
detracts from the engine bay’s appearance.
VCM Performance developed a replacement Infill Panel in
conjunction with our own OTR that fits like a glove using
all factory fittings. Fits in seconds, offer an OEM look and
feel, and is very competitively priced

VE Air Box
VCM Performance VE cold air intake system
VCM Suite purchased a new VE Calais V in September of 2007
specifically for product development; kicking off with air
box design.
Although seemingly simple in concept, designing a suitable
air box requires much more than a tape measure. Indeed, the
process kicked off with back to back testing of the factory
‘noise suppression box’ mounted in front of the throttle
body as a means of establishing linear, laminar and
turbulent air flow.
Stage two (2) involved the design of several air box mock
ups with each tested on our chassis dyno before ultimately
deciding on an option that delivered the best ‘sustained’
performance. Repeatability, best gain and the lowest
possible intake temperatures was the target, and we believe
we have achieved what we set out to do.
Stage three (3) had the team testing a new replacement
Intake Pipe (see below for details) with wonderful results.

All VCM Performance CAI's are manufactured to exacting
standards from aluminium sheet, the designs of which
somewhat mimic OE style, and which are coated with an oil
and temperature resistant black coating.
Our air boxes are supplied with fitting instructions and are
'bolt-in' kits complete with induction pie, air box, filter
and screws – noting that there is no physical modification
required for fitment.

VE Intake Pipe
VCM Performance continues to expand its High Performance
Commodore and Ford products range with a dyno tested
‘replacement’ high-flow VE intake pipe.
VCM-P engineers designed the new pipe from scratch intent on
delivering the best possible air flow and volume for all VE
LS engined vehicles.
This is a direct response to how the factory Holden intake
‘plenum’, with its many turns and chambers, has an effect on
reducing air intake efficiency.
The new VCM-P pipe is designed to work with either the
factory Air-box, or with our own VE Cold Air Intake – in
either MAF or MAF-less applications.
Easy to fit with all parts required to complete
installation, the new VE Intake Pipe delivers great results
in two ways:

CPR6 Manifold
Months of testing has resulted in a manifold for the
Alloytec engine that adds 20rwhp to any Alloytec, regardless
of what modifications it already has. Fitting an exhaust
system typically adds another 20rwhp.
A VCM Suite tune isn’t mandatory, however it does improve
the driving experience and will result in a total
approximate gain of 35rwhp, or 55 with an exhaust.
The CPR6 manifold is supplied with new gaskets and longer
bolts, it takes little more than an hour to fit and can be
achieved by anyone with basic mechanical knowledge. In fact,
because the process is so simple, it’s easy swapping the
manifold from one vehicle to the next should someone want to
upgrade to a new Alloytec powered Commodore.
