VCM Suite/VCM Performance’s expansion; that of occupying and
refurbishing an exciting new facility located at 1634
Ferntree Gully Road, Knoxfield, was undertaken with one
intention, that being to increase our R&D role with a range
of products and services that will benefit our VCM Suite
software equipped workshops, and of course their customers.
Simply supplying software isn’t and has never been enough
for us, hence the spending of in excess of half a million
dollars on a fully equipped workshop, dyno and training
facility.
Over the past three years VCM Performance has established a
sizeable product range incorporating air boxes, fuel systems
and valve train components, and this will be expanded
further in the months to come. Developing products, though,
is one thing, proving their worth is another. In turn we
plan to add regular web site updates on product advancements
and this time we are looking at our VCM-2 Camshaft.
Our ‘mild’ 224/224 grind was created for those wanting a
subtle mix of improved performance and slightly lumpy idle,
without the need for a high stall converter (auto) or
finicky off idle manners (manual).
Originally designed for the LS1, our VCM Performance VCM-2
camshaft has subsequently seen its way into various 6-litre
engines, with the silver VE SS Auto ute shown here (right) a recent
recipient.
As is the case with all research and development, back to
back testing is imperative as is having a chassis dyno
capable of complete repeatability. Our latest spec Mainline
AWD1500 dyno is perfect for this application offering
sophisticated software which when combined with VCM Suite,
provides all the tools we could ever want.
Turning to the car in question, it was in response to the
owner’s request that our fitting shop (Autotechnique) equip
the car with lowered Walkinshaw Performance springs, a
DiFilippo cat-back exhaust system, our air box and a VCM
Suite tune, for a 24 rear wheel kilowatt gain.
The owner quickly got a taste for extra performance and was
soon back on the doorstep wanting more. For round two we
completed the DiFilippo exhaust with ‘shortie’ Tri-y headers
and high flow cats, while donning the engine with a complete
Stage 2 camshaft package (billet camshaft, new cam pulley,
dual VCM Performance Valve Springs, chrome moly retainers,
shims and valve stem seals).

Stage 1
Cat back exhaust, air box and tune
Result: 234 rwkW
Stage 2
Tri-y headers, hi-flow cats, VCM-2 camshaft kit
Result: 286 rwkW
That represents a 54 rear wheel (68 flywheel)
kilowatt improvement! More power is also available with our
VCM-3, VCM-6 and other camshaft options.
VCM Performance camshafts and camshaft kits are available
from all VCM Suite equipped workshops.
